Set Yourself Up For Success This Fall

Set Yourself Up For Success This Fall

September Marks a New Chapter in So Many Ways

Kids trade in their swimsuits for backpacks, teachers return to their posts in the classroom, the corporate crew experiences the expiration of Summer Fridays and more! No matter who you are, you’re likely going through some kind of transition right now. With the existing energy around change prevalent this time of year, you won’t need to cultivate it yourself, making this a great time to tack on a habit reset and establish a routine that will serve your goals.

As a fitness entrepreneur, I see this with the athletes that train with us at Rev’d and in my personal life - starting to implement healthy habits now will not only ease the transition for whatever phase you’re entering but also set you up for success in the future. I love that Chasing Red Flags emphasizes prevention - creating a routine that makes you feel energized is a great way to help prevent some of the negative impacts of seasons to come.

Don’t come for me for bringing up winter - I feel strongly that NOW is the time to create positive rituals to fall back on in October, November, and December. It takes 21 days to build a habit so if you begin your trial-and-error period now, you can settle into a routine that works for you before the elements that weigh on motivation creep in. We know things like cold weather and shorter days can make it harder to want to do the things that are good for us. By making those the norm, not the exception NOW, your winter self will thank you later!

With 17 years of experience in motivation and fitness, these are my…

Five Tips To Set Your Winter Self Up For Success

1. Find a form of movement that excites you!

At Rev’d we create motivating and immersive fitness experiences. Whether it's clipping in for one of our indoor cycling sessions, or grabbing weights for our strength modality Rev’d-X, training sessions are a great way to step away from your daily life and devote 45 minutes to yourself. If that’s not your thing, find some kind of movement that is! You can try going on a walk to explore your neighborhood, take the stairs instead of the elevator, start parking a little further from your destination to increase your walk time etc.

2. Bring a friend!
Having an accountability partner can be huge in preventing us from hitting the snooze button on those dark mornings or changing plans at the end of a long day. Ask a friend to move with you and see if you can make it a recurring thing!

3. Outerwear that excites you!
Having a go-to workout outfit that makes you want to get up and go is GREAT, but even more important come winter is turning the dreaded outer layer into something fun. Find a colorful coat that you’ll be excited to grab when you head out the door.

4. Stabilize your sleep routine.
It might seem basic, but sleep is critical for recovery. As you adjust to your new fall schedule don’t forget to prioritize sleep and try to get on a regular schedule if you can.

5. Make your water bottle your best friend.
Whether it’s a Stanley, Owalla, HydroJug, Simple Modern or brand-free bottle, find a water bottle that you want to keep around you and keep refilling. Hydration is another key component to recovery and another important wellness building block you don’t want to leave behind.
